In many folklore traditions\, Elder trees are seen as protective\, warding off unhelpful spirits. The plant’s ability to sprout from damaged boughs and root from cuttings symbolizes regeneration. This tree is favored by birds and small mammals. The flowers are nourishing to the bees. Elderberries have been utilized in traditional folk medicine for thousands of years. Jujube fruit is rich in vitamins\, minerals\, and antioxidants\, offering benefits such as improved digestion\, enhanced sleep quality\, and boosted immunity. \nThis tree was introduced to Tucson by Chinese residents in the late 1890’s. Its drought hardiness and ability to propagate from the roots have allowed it to survive in the alleys next to the shade of buildings. In china\, some of the root bundles have been dated to over a thousand years.
