We do not have to be free of racism to be an Anti-Racist (as written by Ibram X Kendi). Being an Anti-Racist means that we address racist ideas wherever we find them, starting within ourselves.

As Animists and Earth honoring People, we cannot move forward in an Animist movement until we specifically and consciously address our internalized bias, racism and for those who are considered “white”, White Privilege. Whether we feel ready or not, we must address the racist ideas and policies that founded and perpetuate our culture. We cannot skip this part, as uncomfortable as it is.

As Animists and Earth honoring People, we sense how everyone is connected, and the connection extends beyond Humanity. WE are the Earth and the Earth is US. As colonization spread across the planet, it brought many wounds, falsehoods, and lies to our ancestors. Over the generations, our DNA, Minds, and Souls have absorbed colonized ideas about every aspect of life, including “domestication”, time, gender, nature, sexuality, “history”, race, of course white supremacy, and on it goes.

We can heal our wounds and our ancestors with the help of our spirit allies, so the new world can emerge. Learning to see the tendrils of Colonized Mind within our thoughts, beliefs and actions, helps us remember our place in the circle of sacred humanity. Not doing so continues to inflict systemic and personal harm on our Black and Brown family members.

Quynn says “As the founder of this spiritual community and Animist church, I take responsibility to host this circle of my own creation. I offer this weekly series as an opportunity to lean in to these challenging issues. As I host I do. I have always offered circles about subjects that I need too. This circle is no exception. I must do this work. We all need to do this important work NOW.”

The structure of this circle is as follows:
-Quynn opens the sacred circle, and shares a prayer of protection for all black and brown people.
-A reading of wisdom from a black scholar, poet or artist to offer a focus for our inquiry and healing journey. Additional learning is suggested.
-You will have the opportunity to journey within/meditate on the prompt while listening to Quynn’s drum (you can have silence or drum for yourself if preferred). New to journeying? Quynn can help.
-Structured sharing for those who want to do so.
-Closing the circle with a prayer for protection for those who need it more than us and gratitude for the ancestors who fought for justice.

This circle is structured for safety in an Anti-Racist setting. All levels of understanding are welcome. The only prerequisite is having an open heart and mind, and a willingness to CHECK OUR DEFENSIVENESS.
