The Spirit of Jujube Circle in Tucson
November 10 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Today at 2:00 p.m. there will be a spirit of the Jujube tree circle at the hive. This valuable tree has fruit that is an ingredient in many Chinese medicinal preparations.
This tree was introduced to Tucson by Chinese residents in the late 1890’s. Its drought hardiness and ability to propagate from the roots have allowed it to survive in the alleys next to the shade of buildings. In china, some of the root bundles have been dated to over a thousand years. Thru the many calamities of drought, flood or warfare the tree sprouts again from the ruins of crumbling adobe.
We will share the readings from the “fact basket” as we enjoy the sumptuous, soothing tea (perfect for taming the churning emotional stomach) Holding a twig of leaflets, we will journey to the drum and reflect on the travels thru time and space of this most valuable tree.
